Diseño de Humedal Construido para tratar los lixiviados del Proyecto de Relleno Sanitario de Pococí
Abstract
In order to find an economical solution that functions as conventional water treatment plant, a proposal of an eco-technological treatment that offers an adequate management to the leachates generated by the Los Laureles Landfill in Pococí is presented.
To create this design, written and oral sources were consulted to obtain information about the use of this technology, where the use of specific kinds of vegetation, whose roots are in contact with the wastewater, are able to remove polluting components of the water, being the Manual of Technology Assessment for sub surface flow constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment made by the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States, the most consulted source. The measurements of the constructed wetland were made through an Excel 2007 worksheet.
Regarding the construction details, hydraulic and soil mechanical principals were applied for a proper performance of the constructed wetland.. Besides, some comparisons with similar wetlands were made, so that the constructed wetland works effectively. Moreover, on the construction plans, it is indicated which materials are needed to make this construction.
