Mobile applications are increasingly important as tools for the operational development of SMEs in the country. In this work, an exploratory research was carried out to analyze a first outline of the possible social, generational and technological causes regarding the lack of implementation, use and development of mobile applications in the district of San Antonio de Escazú. The action-research process was chosen as the main methodology for posing the hypothesis problem, scope of action and delimitation of the sample, and application of the research instrument. Various sources were also consulted, such as the State of the SME Situation 2021, the Cantonal Competitiveness Index of the University of Costa Rica, the register of active companies of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Foreign Trade, the Yulök magazine article regarding the socio-historical characteristics of generational groups in the country, the Cantonal Development Plan 2019-2029 of the Municipality of Escazú, among others. The data obtained through surveys indicated that there could be a relationship between the generational group to which a person belongs and their familiarity with technology, which means that SMEs led by people to the satellite and preacher generations tend to use less tailored applications for most of your daily operational tasks. Likewise, the importance of carrying out a more detailed investigation to corroborate the results obtained and delve into others with the help of local governments is strongly recommended.Las aplicaciones móviles son cada vez mas importantes como herramientas para el desarrollo operativo de las Pymes en el país. En este trabajo se realizó una investigación exploratoria para analizar un primer esbozo de las posibles causas sociales, generacionales y tecnológicas respecto a la falta de implementación, uso y desarrollo de aplicaciones móviles en el distrito de San Antonio de Escazú. Se utilizó el proceso de investigación-acción como metodología principal para el planteamiento del problema hipótesis, ámbito de acción y delimitación de la muestra, y aplicación del instrumento de investigación. Se consultaron además diversas fuentes, como El Estado de Situación PYME 2021, el Índice de Competitividad Cantonal de la Universidad de Costa Rica, el registro de empresas activas del Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio Exterior, el artículo de la revista Yulök respecto a las características socio históricas de los grupos generacionales en el país, el Plan de Desarrollo Cantonal 2019-2029 de la Municipalidad de Escazú, entre otros. Los datos obtenidos por medio de encuestas indicaron podría existir una relación entre el grupo generacional al que pertenezca una persona y su familiarización con la tecnología, lo que se traduce a que las Pymes lideradas por personas a las generaciones satelital y pregonera tienden a utilizar en menor medida las aplicaciones para la mayoría de sus tareas diarias operativas. Asimismo, se recalca la importancia de realizar una investigación más detallada para corroborar los resultados obtenidos y profundizar en otros con la ayuda de los gobiernos locales.
