The main goal of this research is the design of an adjustable transtibial socket, which has as main objective to allow the adjustment during the use of the prosthesis, which optimizes the interaction between the user-product to create comfort. An amputee goes through several stages during the process of recovery and integration into the social environment, which are not easy because in these stages the person is in a constant adaptation, both physical and psychological. Regarding to the physical adaptations, there is a significant variation in the condition of the residual limb, called stump. So, constant visits to the doctor will have to become part of the patient's daily life, increasing the frequency of this visits when the stump changes dimensions unexpectedly, either by decrease or increase in weight, or fluid retention, among others. According to data from the National Prosthetic Center (CNP), appointments for revision of the prosthesis are scheduled in a period of one year, but usually these are reschedul to 6 months due to adjustment problems in the prosthesis, mostly due to adjustment problems. specifically between the stump and the container in which it is contained, called socket. In this appointments methods such as pads are implemented, and in most cases the patient is advised to use extra sockings to create a good fit with the socket. These methods are only temporary solutions to the big adjustment problem There is a need of an adjustment solution that converge with the activities of the user, in order to facilitate full reincorporation in the social field, such as the patient's work. We were able to define the recommended areas of adjustment. This means that fieldwork was done, as to talk with experts in the field in order to get a good design. In addition, the technologies currently used in Costa Rica for the development of the socket were studied in order to get the one that best matches the production needs. Also a study of the current adjustment method was executed. This allowed us to define some important characteristics and limitations, in order to have better knowledge of the market. Then we began an exploration of ideas, which were widely analyzed in order to select the most appropriate. Once the adjustment mechanism to be used was select, the final design and its characteristics were detailed, together with the important information to understand why we chose this design.
