dc.description.abstractThis specialty Professional Practice report consists on a technical study of the steam system of Compañía Nacional de Chocolates, DCR S.A. with the purpose of proposing a new design of the steam distribution and condensate return; to optimize the energy usage. The major saving opportunities that can be achieved with new steam system proposal will be also analyzed. For the technical analysis, the steam consumption of each equipment is estimated and important data such as work pressures are gathered. With this data, the total steam system demand is determined in order to size the boiler the company requires. Three different boilers options are provided to the company´s technical department and a fuel saving analysis is made for the two main options, this with the intention of offering a selection criterion since there are plans to replace the current boiler in early 2015. Finally, conclusions and recommendations for new steam system, seeking safety and efficiency, are given.es
