Currently, the company Caminos del Sol S.A. has two frozen warehouses which store the products once they have been processed. In the last years, the company has had an increase in production levels, which is why the two existing frozen warehouses don't have the capacity to store all the products and for that reason the company began to implement the use of containers as cellars to store the rest of the products. However, the situation previously described drives to a very high energy and economic cost, and because of that, the company started looking for a possible solution to this problem. This work aims to help this situation by an engineering design that includes the design of a new frozen warehouse which will have the capacity to store the product that has been stored in the containers and even more product that could be produced in the future. This work aims to find a way to create a more efficient cooling system by analyzing and proposing an engineering design of a centralized cooling system that will allow the three warehouses to run on a single group of equipment. To design this system, a general overview of the principles of refrigeration will be explained, and then the design of the new frozen warehouse and the design of the centralized cooling system will be explained. Subsequently, an energy and economic analysis of the proposal of the system will be performed in order to choose the best design for the final implementation.
