The measurement of densities and moisture content field is a slow and laborious process, and sometimes there is not given the importance that deserves. This is a reality in which projects of general interest are develop, as building of roads or fillers where buildings of great importance will be the foundations, where quality control is carried inefficiently benefit the archaic and dangerous of current methods for measuring these parameters. This project was make out to validate the measurement of densities and moisture in field with the use of an electrical densimeter (EDG) using as benchmark the test of cone of sand (ASTM D 1556). To carry out with this goal 5 soils were characterized by the same amount of material of sources extraction. Beginning from the test were obtained data about particle size (ASTM C 136 and C 117), Atterberg limits (ASTM D 4318), soil classification (ASTM D 2487), and compaction using modified effort (ASTM D 1557). This to determine parameters required by the EDG. A procedure was create for compacting the materials simulating the conditions of field, as well as the mold and the mallet to be able to carry out the test. Beginnings from this there were created the models of soils who allowed that the EDG should do the measurements in field. This procedure was used to generate the field measurements, due to the shortage of projects where the materials used for the investigation were used. The results were compared by means of two statistical methods; the first one it is the established one for the ASSHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL), and the second one is an analysis of average by means of a paried test, obtaining that the test of the EDG is not so exact respect with the standard.es
