La Palma School is located in La Península de Osa, Puntarenas. This institute experiences water shortages therefore, the following project provides a solution to this problem by implementing a water supply design that consists of a first elevated tank to that will provide potable water to the kitchen area and faucets near restrooms. A second system, made up of an elevated tank, underground tank and a pump will be used to provide rain water to toilets; when there is no rain water available, potable water is used instead. Additionally, an economical and sustainable analysis have been done to determine whether keeping the existing water fixtures or buying new highly efficient water fixtures. The rating system named Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) has be used to measure the sustainable impact of the water system design. Also, an electrical control system has been designed for the entire system. Finally, highly efficient water fixtures improve substantially the water savings; specifically, 56,11%. The initial investment is higher when changing the water fixtures but the payback period reduces from 29 years to 10 years. Therefore, the design that implements both rain water harvesting and highly efficient water fixtures is the choice to go with.
