In the contemporary Costa Rican society, cultural spaces represent one of the most important means for the expresion and guard of our cultural values, as part of the process to build the collective identity. Since the Ministry of Cultura and Youth was created in 1971, it’s main task has been to foment, guard and create the bases for the cultural expressions in our country. Nowadays, we have new challenges in that matter. This study raises the analisys of the National Center of Culture, stablished in the old site of the National Liquor Factory and declared as National Heritage in the 90’s. The site has several known intangible values, and stands as one of the most relevant historical buildings in the country. As a result of the analysis, this dissertation explores the posiblity of building a new auditorium in the historical site to give a proper space for the musical expressions and complete the cultural center’s program. This work approaches the specific topic of the architectural accoustics in musical spaces having as the overall objective the design of the architectural proposal for the new auditorium. Along of the five chapters that compose this work is posible to find: the general parameters for the proposal, the approach strategies, the technical and architectural proposal and the conclusions and recommendations.
