Estado de los sistemas agroforestales establecidos del 2011 al 2018 bajo el programa por pago de servicios ambientales en tres regiones de Costa Rica

Abstract

Ante la ausencia de información recopilatoria de los sistemas agroforestales con Pago de Servicios Ambientales en Costa Rica, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el estado de los sistemas agroforestales establecidos del 2011 al 2018 bajo el Programa por Pago de Servicios Ambientales en tres regiones de Costa Rica. Se elaboró una caracterización de los proyectos que fueron formalizados en el Fondo Nacional de Financiamiento Forestal, en las Oficinas Regionales de San Carlos, San José Oriental y San José Occidental. Para elaborar la caracterización de los Sistemas Agroforestales se revisaron los expedientes de los proyectos y así determinar las especies, tecnologías, composición estructural y el manejo reportado. Se desarrolló un protocolo que permitió evaluar el estado de los sistemas, conocer el manejo silvicultural que han recibido, y la calidad de los productos forestales que se pueden obtener de los mismos. La mayor cantidad de proyectos en la zona de estudio son sistemas agrosilviculturales, compuestos principalmente por Erythrina sp. y Tectona grandis, siendo mayoritariamente árboles de uso múltiple en cultivos y árboles en bloques, con pocos reportes de intervenciones silviculturales. El protocolo fue validado en campo con 15 proyectos, dando como resultado una efectiva aplicabilidad en los proyectos, que permite obtener valores dasométricos y gráficos radiales de manejo silvicultural del componente forestal, así como una descripción general del sistema.

Given the lack of information regarding agroforestry systems with Environmental Services Payment in Costa Rica, this research aimed to evaluate the status of agroforestry systems established from 2011 to 2018 under the Program for Payment of Environmental Services in three regions of Costa Rica. A characterization of formalized projects in the Fondo Nacional de Finaciamiento Forestal (National Forestry Financing Fund) was elaborated with the projects from the Regional Offices of San Carlos, San José Oriental and San José Occidental. In order to elaborate the characterization of the agroforestry systems, the project files were reviewed to determine the species, technologies, structural composition and management reported. A protocol was developed to evaluate the state of the systems, know the silvicultural management they have received, and the quality of the forest products that can be obtained from them. The largest number of projects in the study area are agrosilvicultural systems, mainly composed of Erythrina sp. and Tectona grandis, being mostly trees of multiple use in crops and trees in blocks, with few reports of silvicultural interventions. The protocol was validated in the field in 15 projects, resulting in an effective applicability in the projects, which allows obtaining dasometric values and radial graphs of silvicultural management of the forestry component, as well as a general description of the system.
