Abstract
The need to create spaces that promote the cultural and artistic expression of communities has, in recent years, driven the development of project aimed at strengthening local identity. In the case of the canton of Barva, one of the oldest in the country and a territory with a broad historical and cultural legacy, there is a recognized absence of infrastructure specifically intended for citizen gathering and the dissemination of art and culture. Based on this issue, the design of a cultural center in the central district of Barva is proposed, with the objective of enhancing community participation and projecting the cultural value of the canton toward future generations. The project proposes an inclusive and flexible space, conceived as a point of convergence for residents of all ages, where tradition and modernity are articulated within a single place. To this end, areas for workshops, classrooms, multipurpose rooms, exhibition spaces, meeting areas, and an auditorium are integrated, responding to the technical and spatial requirements typical of this type of facility. The architectural proposal incorporates principles of lighting, acoustics, and adaptability, allowing cultural life to be invigorated and creativity to be fostered without limitations. The project’s conception is based on historical and sociocultural analysis of the canton, wich highlights the richness of its traditions, such as religious celebrations, popular art, and community artistic expressions, as well as the need for a space capable of channeling these manifestations within an appropriate environment. In this sense, the cultural center is proposed not only as a building, but as a catalyst for social cohesion, community appropriation, and the strengthening of Barva’s identity. It transcends the physical realm to become a tool for social transformation that contributes to community integration, the preservation of collective memory, and the sustainable cultural development of the canton of Barva.
