Abstract
The Company El Tremedal S.A. Los Chiles, located in Alajuela province, Los Chiles City, El Amparo district, produce hybrid pineapple MD-2 for exportation as fresh fruit. This property with approximately nine years of producing has been highlighted for having extensive experience and a research vision in the cultivation of pineapple. This research was executed with the objective of determine the effectiveness of the insecticide Diazinón under the microencapsulated formulation of KNOX OUT®, about the control of the Tecla (Strymon megarus) in pineapple (Ananas comosus var. comosus) and at the same time compare that efficiency with the conventional management exercised by the company to control this problematic plague. Five treatments were established each of them with six repetitions; two of the treatments correspond to the application of KNOX OUT® 2 FM 24 SC in two doses (Low: 3 l/ha and High: 4 l/ha), applied 49 days and 63 days after forcing (ddf). Diazinon 60 EC and Carbaryl 48 SC applied alternately in two doses (3 l/ha and 4 l/ha of Diazinon and 2,1 l/ha and 2,8 l/ha of Carbaryl; it was also considered an absolute witness treatment. The incidence of Tecla was determined (Strymon megarus) in inflorescence of the pineapple plant in second crop, in addition to the effectiveness of the control of the insecticides with respect to the relative percentage in which the incidence of this pest in the Witness was reduced. There were no significant differences for the incidence and effectiveness of control variables between the application of the KNOX OUT® and conventional use of farm insecticide. However, the costs of implementation of the KNOX OUT® were lower in comparison to the insecticide used by estate.
